Howdy, Seed Lover! Thanks for your interest in the Share the Seed project! It’s free and easy to become a member, but first, let me tell you a little more about what we do…
Share the Seed is not a seed swapping group, though we seriously (and regularly) indulge in that activity! We are actually a non-profit project comprised of member gardeners working together to promote food security through education, community service, eco-gardening, seed saving, and free seed distribution. Each member of the project grows out at least one food crop for seed in their own gardens (we like to call them demonstration gardens!). Once the season is over and everyone has gathered the seed they grew, we collectively package and distribute them to deserving individuals and families in our communities. Pretty cool, right?
And while we feel like we’re doing great things for our communities, members get a lot out of it, too! STS members often receive free starter seed, participate in educational workshops and seed swaps, host garden tours, teach others how to garden and grow seed, help package and distribute the seeds we grow, make new friends, and learn a lot about gardening and seed saving along the way!
If you think you would like to participate in this project, or if you have questions about it, feel free to drop me a line using the contact form below and I will send you more information and add you to our growing family of seed lovers!
If you are on Facebook, we have a private members-only group that you can join on request, just be sure to contact us first so we know to add you. Once you get the “go-ahead”, simply search Facebook for Share the Seed or visit us at https://www.facebook.com/groups/SharetheSeed/ and click Join at the top of the page.
Thanks for your interest in sharing the seed and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Jill Henderson, Share the Seed Project Director.
